July 2000 marked the first visit of the Tokyo-based blues band Georgie Pie to the United States. Arriving in Washington DC early in July, guitarist/vocalist Masashi Hara, bassist/vocalist Hiroyuki Kaise and drummer Hideyuki Umezawa effortlessly dominated the stage for two weekend nights at Madam's Organ in Washington DC. Playing to a wildly supportive crowd of college students and young professionals, Georgie Pie established their credentials as one of the world's finest electric blues bands and announced their determination to conquer America. |

The next week found the boys performing for an appreciative crowd at Frederick Maryland's Bentz Street Raw Bar and rocking the house at Baltimore's Full Moon Saloon. Later Masashi would sit in with the well-known Baltimore harpist Black Magic at the Fullmoon Saloon. An mp3 of Georgie Pie live at Full Moon Saloon can be found here |

The next day Georgie Pie appropriated the spotlight from another band at Morgantown's West Virginia Brew Pub. Playing only two songs, the boys drew awed onlookers from the street and jaded staff from the kitchen and left the stage to standing applause. After a few days rest and relaxation with friends in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia the band was on the road again, headed for Chicago, playing first at the Windy City's historic Kingston Mines, before moving late that night to Koko Taylor's Celebrity for a last set. The next week Georgie Pie played to full houses at Buddy Guy's Legends, The Beale Street Blues Cafe and B.L.U.E.S ETC, always leaving the stage to enthusiastic applause. |
